USS Missouri
MI00 - Ship Badge

USS Missouri (BB-63)is a United States Navy Iowa-class battleship and was the last battleship built by the United States.  The USS Missouri was the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan which ended World War II and is preserved at Pearl Harbour as a memorial.

The Battleship Missouri is located on historic Ford Island, within the Naval Station Pearl Harbour and as such can only be reached by a shuttle bus from the USS Arizona Visitor Centre.

As the last of the battleships it is significantly larger and longer than its predecessors (it is nearly 900 feet long).

This first photograph shows the Missouri together with the Arizona Memorial from the visitor centre.

The Missouri has significant “presence”, here is a bow view from the Arizona Memorial

The view of the main armament and the bridge from the forward deck.

The view from the bridge area looking forward over the main armament and the bow towards the Arizona Memorial.  Note the clouds, as I mentioned before in the afternoon it would often cloud over but then they would dissipate without any rain.

This photograph shows why it was difficult to take photographs of the Missouri, the security restrictions meant that you could only get a short way from the ship (note the fence by the white van).

In addition as I was there relatively early in the year quite a lot of the ship was closed for maintenance.
